Lama Jamphel Sherap Rinpoche

Lama Jamphel Sherap Rinpoche was born in Amdo Janrike, Tibet, to father Orgyen Tagu and mother Dolker Tenzin; his name was given by Tulku Jamyang Rinpoche. At seventeen he went on pilgrimage to spiritual places in Tibet, and in 1947 travelled to India and Nepal on pilgrimage. In Garshak, Himachal Pradesh, he met Lama Kunga Rinpoche, a student of Tulku Tokden Shakya Shri, and studied with him for two years doing Tsalung practice.

He received the Nyingma Gyubum, the Kama, the Rinchen Terdzö and Dudjom Tersar empowerments from His Holiness Dudjom Jigdrel Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche. He stayed in retreat for three years at Odisha Phuntsokling under the guidance of Lama Dorje Namgyal Rinpoche, and continued in retreat, prayer and meditation for many years.

After the passing of Tulku Tsephel Rinpoche in 2010, Lama Jamphel Sherap Rinpoche was appointed the 6th president of Dundul Raptenling, serving from 2011 to 2016. He passed away in December 2018 in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, India.
