The spititual king Gesar of Ling is widely believed to be heart manifestation of Guru Rinpoche. The bard of king Gesar is depiction of his legendary epic as a performing art form known as ling dro dechen rolmo, which is also a skilful means of praticing dharma and ways of achieving enlightenment.
The Ling dro tradition practiced in Odisha settlement is established when Pha Norsang of Mukpodong and his students consisting of odisha settlement camp no 3 community first performed in front of kyabje Dudjom Jigdrel yeshi dorjee Rinpoche at Dundul raptenling monastery. Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche with much admiration and delight, gifted a chupa (traditional attire) and instructed Pha Norsang la to preserve this tradition.It is still practiced till date with tradition carried forward by Mukpodong Tse yang la, who is granddaughter of Pha Norsang. This tradition of ling dro is originated from pure vision of Mipham Rinpoche.
By Gyaltsab Reting Rinpoche’s directive, Pha Norsang of Mukpodong developed tone, style of dance etc. which is preserved and practiced by current students.
